Connection to Japanese Culture
Having grown up in Japan, I have maintained a deep appreciation for Japanese food and artistry. My experiences continue to influence my tastes and preferences, especially when it comes to traditional Japanese crafts.
I am particularly drawn to rustic, organic styles in Japanese pottery, which are most often created through wood-firing techniques. Among wood-firing enthusiasts, there is a strong appreciation for natural elements and the unique beauty that arises from the interaction of clay and fire. The various regions using wood-firing impart distinct colors and textures to the pottery, resulting in a roughness that adds to the tactile experience and visual appeal.
My parents once purchased a bowl during their travels in Japan. They valued its Wabi Sabi beauty that interestingly the potter referred as a "flop," yet its unique qualities and character made it especially meaningful to my parents.
